Maybelline Tastefully Taupe Shadow : Product Review

I feel like it's been a hot second since I've reviewed anything from the drugstore, so it only seems appropriate to kick of my weekly posts with a drugstore item. I actually wear quite a bit of drugstore stuff, so I don't know why I don't put it up on here more often. Perhaps I should do a "Best of the Drugstore" type post soon... Regardless, let's dive into this, shall we?

The Facts

Price: $2.99 (in Kansas)
Amount of Product: .09 oz.
Number of Shades: 20
Claim: "Extraordinary Color from our ultra-blendable pigments. Long Wear with sensual finish that lasts up to 12 hours."

Shade that I used: 250S - Tastefully Taupe

Shades and the powder itself: I used to use almost exclusively Maybelline eye shadows when I was in high school, they were kind of my go to brand, but I cannot remember anything about the Expertwear shadows aside from the two shades that I wore religiously (Silken Taupe and... Shell [?]). I don't remember if they used to offer matte and shimmer shades, but they definitely do now. There were several matte shades, but the majority of the shadows were the slightly shimmery type that Tastefully Taupe is.

For having talc as the first ingredient, the powder doesn't reek and it's surprisingly un-powdery; both of which I'm completely fine with.

Finish and Color: I purposely bought Tastefully Taupe because it looks exactly like what Silken Taupe used  to look like. The current Silken Taupe looks a bit lighter and frostier than its older counterpart. The finish on Tastefully Taupe is definitely that of a shimmer shadow, but there isn't any visible glitter.

The color is fantastic when applied with your finger, but it is really hard to pick up with a brush. If you want a sheer wash of color, then apply with a brush is awesome, but if you want it to show up on your lids like it is in the pan? Use your fingers or, and I can't believe that I'm going to suggest this, use the sponge tip applicator that it comes with. Yup, this shadow actually applies better that way.

Wear Time: I always wear a primer with my eye shadows, but even with primer, eye shadows can still crease. This however, did not crease and wore well for the entire day.

Does it deliver on its claim? Yes. The shadow wore for 12 hours (albeit with a primer, but no powder shadow lasts on me for 12 hours without a primer). The shadow is very blendable and you can get great color, you just have to know how to apply the shadow. For $2.99, this is a great all over lid color to pick up!

Easy Sultry Look : Tutorial

A sultry look doesn't have to mean dark eyes and lips; it can be easily achieved using light and mid range shadows and bold lip! This is one of my favorite looks to play with and you can wear the eyeshadows without the lip for a daytime look or change the eyes and play with the bold lip for a statement look. However, put together, they do create a bit of a sultry look (ignore my cheesy smile above) that is easily recreated. Hit the jump for the video tutorial and more photos of the completed look.

Maybelline Fit Me Shine-Free Foundation : Product Review

Since I am a huge Revlon loyalist when it comes to drugstore foundations, I decided that I needed to branch out and try some other brands. I decide to pick up three new foundations about two weeks ago and the Maybelline Fit Me Shine-Free foundation stick is the first that I tested. To see what I thought about it, keep reading.

Metropolitan Eyes : Tutorial

I did a review of a Revlon Photoready eye shadow palette several months ago and after using it a few times, I kind of threw it to the side. While the shadows are really nice for Revlon (if you've ever used Revlon shadows, you know what I mean by this), but they didn't strike me as anything special. Well, I saw this palette a few days ago and decided to try it again. To get this look, keep reading!

Warm Smoky Eyes : Tutorial

I don't do dark, dramatic eyes very often in real life because I think that they look goofy on me, but every once in a while, I get a desire to do them. I also tend to shy away from using straight black shadow, but I figured since I am in the midst of #30daysofmakeup (on Instagram, you can follow me @bisoubisoubangbang), why not do a look I haven't done in a while. Pretty much every time I show a smoky eye, I say that it's "really easy", but they so often are really easy. Keep reading to find out how to achieve this look.

Subtle Matte Eyes : Tutorial

Since everything 90s is back in style, it only seems right that matte eyeshadows have hit peak popularity again. I really love matte shadows since I find them easy to blend and work with and that they give this beautiful polished look to the eyes. Even though I'm in my mid (late?) twenties, matte shadows just make me feel grown up. To see how to achieve this style, keep reading!

Foundation Routine : Tutorial

I think I've been saying for a good month or two that I needed to show you guys an updated foundation routine. I really wanted to do this in video format, but I think that I'm going to have to wait a bit on videos until I can get a new camera. Keep reading to see what steps I do for my everyday foundation routine.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries : Tutorial

Although I feel like I've done about 18 different tutorials using pink eyeshadow, it's still not a color that I reach for very often in my day to day routine. Every time that I end up wearing it, it's a very long thought out process because I fear that I will end up making myself look very sickly. However, one of the easiest ways to make a color more wearable (that being colors that you fear) is to add brown. Brown is pretty much the great equalizer in the world of eye makeup and an easy way to make something more day friendly. Keep reading to find out how to get this look!

Cara Delevingne Look : Tutorial

I feel like this has been a long time coming since I posted the reference picture on Facebook earlier this week. I had found a picture of Cara Delevingne back stage at a fashion show and I loved the makeup that they had done for her. I decided to recreate it with a slightly more wearable twist, so keep reading to find out how to do it!

Red Lips : Tutorial

The red lip. It's a classic look that is can be used for practically any occasion. For this tutorial, I'll show you two different methods to achieve a red lip. The first look is for a more traditional red lip while the second tutorial (which only requires three steps) is for a more modern red lip. Keep reading for more on how to achieve these two looks.

What's in my Bag?

What's in my Bag?

For reasons unknown, I find it incredibly fascinating to know what other people carry around in their makeup bags or purses. I've decided to share with you what I carry in my makeup bag for every day use. This isn't every item that currently sits in my bag, because some of those things I barely use or are really boring (i.e. tweezers - I used Tweezerman by the way). The picture above is my current makeup bag, which is a LeSportsac bag I picked up on clearance at DSW about 2 years ago. I've decided to break this up into categories, so let's dive right in!

Line Stiletto : Favorites

Maybelline Line Stiletto : Hit Pan & Back Again

Another new post topic? Yes. I think that product reviews and tutorials are important, but I also think that it's important to tell you guys about products that I buy again and again aka my favorites. There are items in my makeup arsenal that are monthly favorites or seasonal favorites and then there are my all time favorites. I'm a liquid liner kind of girl; if I wore makeup every day (which I don't, I usually take a break on Sundays), I would say I wear liquid liner 6 days of the week with the 7th day being the occasional pencil or gel day. I'm very picky when it comes to liquid liners and I can tell you all about the kinds that I don't like, but I'll refrain.

$20 Makeup Challenge : Tutorial

The $20 Makeup Challenge

I've seen this all over Youtube and have wanted to do this for a while, but I wanted to do it for a blog rather than a vlog. I ended up spending $19.51 (before tax) on my products, but there were definitely some misses in my group of products. I wanted to do this challenge to see if I could actually get a complete look for under $20. In my daily routine, I use a healthy mix of high end and drugstore brands, but I don't often think about how much those things cost. If I tried to recreate my daily "makeup bag" for someone, it would cost well over $150. I did my shopping at Target for this challenge and after having done this, there were some products I liked and some I would recommend to no one. (Before and After photos at the end... so keep reading!)

Color Whisper : Product Review

Color Whisper : Maybelline

I always get excited when I see that the drugstores are getting new product and I saw new end displays at Target about two weeks ago. The first item that caught my attention was the new Maybelline Color Whisper. I am a huge fan of the Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters and these looked similar, so I thought I should pick some up.
