Wet n Wild Megalast Liquid Lipstick : Regrets

I had read some bad reviews of this product, but I needed to try it out for myself and... now I wish I hadn't. I did get this for $1.99, so it's not a big loss of money that I'm mourning, it's the texture of my lips that I mourn. There are many reasons why this lipstick is being dubbed as an "epic" fail, so keep reading to find out why.

The Wet n Wild Megalast liquid lipstick line is pretty expansive and comes in a lot of really cool colors, which is what drew me in to this product in the first place. I almost bought two of these at the time, but I'm really glad that I only went with one. The color that I tested is "Cherry on Top" which is an intense red and in my opinion, reds are the best to test for longwear products.

When I first applied this, the color went on incredibly pigmented, which was a good sign. It was very liquidy at first, so it was very easy to move around/apply but I could feel it starting to dry within minutes. This is not uncommon for longwear lip products, most of them dry after application. However, when this dried, it really really dried. It's kind of hard to explain and I can't demonstrate it in photos, but it kind of dries the skin on your lips into place. You know how your lips feel when you wake up in the morning and they are chapped? How if you move them, you feel like you'll crack your lips open? That's how this felt when it dried.

The color was beautiful though and my lips still looked good, they just didn't feel that great. I went for a walk with my dog (it was about 35 degrees outside) and came back and took a shower. This product definitely would have stayed on throughout the shower, but I wanted to see how hard it was to remove. I used just water at first and the product kind of flaked off. I used some soap afterward and then got out of the shower; the lipstick was still mostly on. The product is very long wearing; I think you would need makeup remover to remove it easily.

After I showered and got ready for the day, I decided to reapply to test out how long it would last through eating and drinking. I got the same weird drying feeling and continued to get ready. I brushed my teeth with the lipstick on and it looked fine afterward. I kept going about my business and about 45 minutes later, I was about to leave my house for the day, so I decided to put a gloss on top. Biggest mistake ever. The reaction between the gloss and the lipstick made an incredibly sticky, flaky, chunky combination. It felt horrible, like someone has put sugar crystals all over my lips and then coated them in sticky honey and I couldn't get it off.

Once I got where I was going, I looked at my lips and they looked so granulated it was disgusting. I thought that maybe it was something between the gloss and the lipstick, so I removed the products again. I reapplied the lipstick for the last time and put nothing on top for a bit. I went to the store and my lips were so dry feeling that I had to put something on top, so I put lip balm on top. I got the exact same result with two very different products, so it makes me think that it has something to do with the lipstick. I meant to take a picture of how this looked, but it was so disgusting (think bloody chapped lips) that I decided against it.

All in all, I would advise you to stay away from this product. It's unfortunate that this happened with this lipstick, because Wet N Wild makes a ton of amazing products (which I will now need to tell you about...). Have any of you tried this product? What did you think? Leave comments below!

  1. I had a very similar reaction with the new formulation of 'Just Bitten' products from Revlon. I was trying to replace an old 'Just Bitten' that I loved. The older version was colored with from concentrated fruit extracts like cherry. I applied the new version (I foolishly bought two), and had my lips dry up. Looking at the ingredients, I realized the new formulation had alcohol and got the color from food dye!
